The Mongolia Provincial Competitiveness Report has been produced by the Economic Policy and Competitiveness Research Center since 2012. Up-to-date data on the report is available via the dedicated website, aimagindex.mn, which is generously supported by The Asia Foundation.

The report provides government, business and the public with information on the competitiveness of all 21 of Mongolia’s provinces, to highlight opportunities and risks, and draw attention to Mongolia’s rural-urban divide.

Provinces are measured and ranked against 180 different criteria across four main categories: economic performance, governance efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure. The report combines general and statistical data with the results of questionnaires distributed to the private sector by the EPCRC in collaboration with local chapters of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in each province.

This data is valuable for supporting long-term development policy formulation, in assessing possibilities and capabilities of provinces and determining their individual strengths and weaknesses. The report allows identification of the key criteria that improve or worsen competitiveness in each province, allowing these to be addressed by decision makers.
