The Business Council of Mongolia (BCM)
was founded in the fall of 2007 to promote increased trade and
investment in Mongolia. BCM represents all investors in Mongolia,
domestic and foreign, on business climate issues. Advocacy efforts with
the Government, Ministry and Parliamentary officials on issues vital to
investors in Mongolia are of utmost importance. BCM members include over
200 local and international investors, donor organizations such as
Asian Development Bank, Millennium Challenge Account, Swedish
International Development Cooperation Agency and 14 foreign embassies in
Mongolia, leading public and NGO organizations and individuals. The
membership involvement ratio of international investors and Mongolian
businesses is 50:50. BCM working groups [Capital Markets,
Entrepreneurship, Environmental, Food & Beverage, Legislative, Tax,
and Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET)] assist in analyzing
business practice concerns and in formulating advocacy strategies. The
working groups are actively involved in discussions and implementation
of the ideas and findings. For instance, Legislative working group (lead
by Munkh-Orgil.Ts) translated and distributed the “Concession law” to
BCM members and introduced to the State Parliament, which was ultimately
approved and considered a useful tool for effectively attracting
foreign investors.
